One of the things that make the Bundesliga special is the 50+1 rule. In general, it means that the members of a club must keep a majority of the voting rights, which prevents outside investors from taking full control.
What it means for supporters
Because members have real influence, clubs tend to think carefully about fans when making decisions. Ticket prices are often low compared with other major leagues, and safe standing areas are common.
The exceptions
There are a few well-known exceptions. Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg are connected to the companies that founded them, and Hoffenheim has long been backed by an individual investor.
A different model
The rule is debated within Germany, but many supporters see it as proof that football can be commercially successful while staying close to its community.
